It may not be the flashiest machine on the market, lacking wireless printing or features like faxing, copying and scanning. It may not impress buyers with functions like direct CD printing or fast speeds of over 50 pages a minute. What the Okidata C610 can do, though, is offer midlevel offices high quality results at a price that is affordable for any budget. And it can do so at speeds of 32 pages per minute.

A color laser printer, the Oki C610 can print in black-and-white or with colors, using its four toner cartridges—cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Using the color, its speeds are a little slower at 30 pages per minute, but these should keep you operating at a solid, respectable pace. With its 75,000 page monthly duty cycle, mid to large size offices will be able to print as many pages as needed without hesitation or worry that the unit will break down. It is very compact at 13.4×17.1×21.5 inches, but it is pretty heavy at 57.3 pounds.

Want to print high quality documents? Then you’ve come to the right place. When printing in color or black-and-white, buyers have the ability to print out documents with a resolution as high as 1200×600 dpi, which will leave documents looking sharp, precise, detailed and professional. Not only can it print with high quality, but it can do so on both sides of the paper with its duplex printing feature. Multiple types of media are supported too, like transparency, banner paper, envelopes, plain paper and mailing stock. Multiple types of envelopes are supported, including custom size and Com 10 envelopes.

For connection, the C610 uses fast ethernet or USB hookups. It is also compatible with 16 GB SD memory cards. It is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems only, and it is Energy Star compliant.

Looking for an all-in-one inkjet printer to handle all of your photo printing needs? If so, you should consider the Pixma MP990. Offering printing, copying and scanning, it will fit the needs of most home users, and its ability to print photos is exceptional. One of the best aspects about this Canon is its wireless printing option, although it does support ethernet and USB connection as well.

The MP990 is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, many media cards are supported by the MP990. Direct printing is offered from SD Memory Card, SDHC MultiMedia Card, Compact Flash and Memory Stick are among the many compatible card options. Using this machine, about 11.9 pages can be printed per minute, and about 9.1 are printed per minute in color. It weighs only 23.6 pounds, and it has dimensions of 18.5×15.2×7.9 inches.

For the most part, user reviews of the Canon Pixma MP990 are positive. Users find setup to be very easy, and most find using the machine to be simple as well. The speeds are fast, according to consumers, and the upfront price is very inexpensive. The biggest problem with this machine, though, is the high price of the Canon MP990 ink cartridges. Buyers find that the cost of ownership is way too expensive because the machine tends to eat Pixma MP990 ink.

For those who find the Canon MP990 ink to be too expensive, remanufactured versions of the ink are available. These remanufactured versions exert the same quality as the OEM or Canon versions, but they cost a lot less. How much less? They can be less than half of the price of the OEM versions. These tanks alone will make the cost of ownership not only affordable, but economic as well. Overall, the Canon MP990 has the ability to be a wonderful addition to any office.

The Lexmark X363dn is a multifunction laser printer designed for the medium or large office environment. It has a large paper capacity, automatic document feeder and a number of well-designed functions for getting work done quickly and easily. Print speed is fast, at up to 35 pages per minute, with a first page out time of around 7 seconds. Lexmark X363dn toner is a bit on the expensive side, however.

The unit includes printing, copying and scanning functions, as well as a number of network scanning options that make it easy to send scanned documents to a variety of locations around the office. Standard input paper capacity is 300 pages but can be expanded to a maximum of 850 sheets. This makes it a great choice for an office expecting to grow in the future. It also includes automatic duplexing, or two-sided printing, which can be enabled as the default printing option to help reduce waste and reduce costs in the office.

Lexmark X363dn toner cartridges come in two sizes. The standard Lexmark X363dn toner cartridge has a capacity of 3,500 pages. High-yield Lexmark X363dn toner has a capacity of 9,000 pages for an even more economical cost per page. Saving money on printer toner will result in a lot of savings for any office. Although toners for this model are a little higher than most in its class, it is still fairly affordable to operate.

User reviews of the Lexmark X363dn are quite positive. Many users praise its affordable price and excellent feature set. One user particularly points out the convenience of its full duplex scanning feature. A few users the lack of a fax function.

Overall, the Lexmark X363dn has the capacity and speed to keep up with a high-volume office with an affordable price to cater to smaller environments. Fast speeds and excellent print quality make it a great value.

The HP CP2025 color laser printer has a lot to offer the small or medium office environment. Its excellent color quality and fast speeds will productivity up, and its excellent paper handling and expansion options are impressive as well.

For some offices, a color printer with the highest quality is not a necessity. Many look for a fast monochrome printer that can also do the occasional color print. For others, however, high-quality color printing is essential, and the HP CP2025 offers some of the best color printing quality in its price range. Reviews from around the web give a clearer picture of its quality. PCWorld liked its low price, and stated that it offers “plenty of good print quality.” Cnet was particularly impressed with its graphics quality, and said it “remains true to the quality we expect from a professional laser”.

Print speed is also a major factor when choosing a printer. HP rates the printer at speeds up to 21 pages per minute. While no reviewers found it to meet that speed, PCWorld rated it at 17.5 pages per minute, and Cnet found it to max out at 13.5 pages per minute. Its speed is still quite impressive compared to older models, such as the HP LaserJet 2600, which has speeds of only 8 pages per minute in color and monochrome.

The HP CP2025 toner cartridges included with the printer are a bit small, with capacities of 1,200 pages each, but high-yield laser toner cartridges are available, with capacities of 3,500 page for black and 2,800 pages for each color cartridge. Using third-party compatible cartridges will lower the cost per page even more resulting in a cost per page of around 1 cent for black and 6 cents per page for color. This is possible because of the higher capacities, especially compared to the cost of LaserJet 2600 toner, which has a significantly higher cost per page.

Paper handling is impressive. The unit has a 300-sheet paper capacity in its standard configuration, but can be expanded to a maximum of 550 sheets if more capacity is needed. Its monthly duty cycle of 40,000 pages gives it plenty of room to grow. Also, its initial 128 MB of RAM can be upgraded to a maximum of 384 MB for users who do a lot of graphics-intensive printing.

Overall, the HP Color LaserJet CP2025 offers some of the best color printing quality in its price range, and still manages to keep toner costs low. Its expandability will appeal to small offices expecting to grow in the future. Users who need high-quality color printing will be very happy, and users on a budget will appreciate its low cost per page.

Every home office in America has a desktop computer and a printer. A large percent of those printers are manufactured by Samsung. The Samsung SCX-4200 printer is one of the most commonly owned printers in homes today, and has proven to be the ultimate office work device. It is the most versatile multifunction device based around a mono laser engine, and is most desired where color output isn’t as important as low costs and speedy print.

Most multifunction printers are slow and take up much of your valuable time warming up for each job it must perform, but the SCX-4200 is incredibly fast with no unnecessary warm up times. The scanner has magnificent quality and in front of it is a simple but effective control panel conveniently designed with an LCD display and a row of buttons for optimal performance.

Toner in the SCX-4200 hardly ever needs to be replaced and costs less than all of the other laser printers in its class. There is direct access to the integrated drum through the easy to open front cover. Samsung provides a 1,000 page ‘starter’ cartridge upon purchase of the unit creating the possibility of immediate use. Print costs come out at about 2 cents per page, making the Samsung 4200 one of the most efficient laser mechanisms available.

Almost every printer in the same class as the SCX-4200 is weak in performance and has flawed print quality. Samsung assures that print output is of great quality with the SCX-4200 and this unique feature is what makes Samsung stick out them most in the crowd of low budget and low quality printers. The Samsung SCX-4200 is the ultimate low cost unit for all of your printing, scanning and copying tasks.

The Dell 1125 is a monochrome laser printer with multifunction capabilities, designed for the small or home office user. While very affordable, and sporting a solid feature set, it is marred by some cost-cutting measures and design missteps.

The multifunction features of the 1125 include printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. In fact, copying, faxing, and scanning can all be done without a connection to a PC, making it a true replacement for separate devices. Although the printing mechanism is monochrome, scanning and faxing can be done in color. The scanning mechanism support 24-bit color scans at resolutions up to 600 dpi resolutions.

The design of the Dell 1125 is somewhat awkward. The unit is not particularly bulky or heavy, especially for a multifunction device, but the paper tray sticks out from the bottom front of the unit in a very strange way and increases the footprint of the device considerably. The LCD panel is also difficult to read at some angles, and precludes users from placing the printer to high for fear of making the LCD unreadable.

Print speed is fairly good at around 14 pages per minute. Text printing quality is quite good, though extremely small fonts tend to lose detail and readability. Graphics printing quality is fairly poor, but this is typical for a multifunction laser printer.

While the main draw for the 1125 might be its affordable price, Dell only includes a “starter” toner cartridge with the unit, with a capacity of 1,000 pages. Higher-yield cartridges are available, with capacities of 2,000 pages each, but the starter cartridge will likely run out very quickly for most users, balancing out its affordable upfront cost with more toner costs in the long run. This is certainly a downside.

Overall, the Dell 1125 is a solid multifunction printer with some problems to overcome. Its features are impressive, and so is its price, but it is difficult to overlook its design flaws and cost-cutting shortcuts.

The Okidata C3600n is a color laser printer aimed at small to medium office environments who need color printing capabilities. While the unit is large and heavy for its class, its speed and print quality make it a great choice for networked office use.

The print quality is excellent, with sharp text and good graphics printing. Print speed is above average for this class of laser printer, at 20 pages per minute in black, and 12 pages per minute in color. Its monthly duty cycle is 35,000 pages, showing that it is capable of high-volume printing if necessary. While most small or medium offices won’t need that much printing volume, it is good to know it is available when needed.

The included toner cartridges are in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) configuration and capacities are rated at 1,500 pages for black, and 1,000 pages for each color cartridge. High-capacity toner cartridges are also available, which bump the capacity to 2,500 pages for black and 2,000 pages for each color. While the upfront cost of the high-capacity cartridges is more than the standard cartridges, they will save on per-page costs, thus saving money in the long run.

The OKI C3600n comes with a USB port for connecting directly to a PC, and an ethernet port for connecting directly to the network. This allows for easy network sharing, and is usually the preferred method, as it eliminates the need for the PC to be on during printing, saving energy. The printer’s software allows users to remotely manage settings and view the status of the printer, which is especially useful in a large office environment.

While the C3600n doesn’t include some of the extras of similar models, such as wireless connectivity and front USB ports, it is a solid printer with great speed and print quality that is capable of high-volume printing when the need arises. The Okidata C3600n makes it a great choice for the growing office.

Designed for small businesses and work groups, the Brother HL-2700 delivers fast print speeds and expandable options; the printer is priced around $300.00.

Utilizing a Toshiba TMPR4995 300 MHz processor and installed memory of 64 MB, maximum of 576 MB (much more than most of its competition), the Brother HL-2700 has the specifications for fast monochrome text printing and ample room for imaging. Common for most printers in its class, the device comes standard with USB, parallel and 10/100BaseTX connections and supports HTTP, SNMP, and Telnet remote management protocols. In addition the HL-2700 is compatible with Apple Mac OS and Windows platforms, which is a bit light compared to its competitors. What the printers lack in platform compatibilities it makes up for with its 780 sheet maximum input capacity and language simulations like HP GL, PCL 6, PostScript 3, and EPSON FX. This printer also supports CompactFlash memory for printing large document s repeatedly; an optional auto duplexer is also available.

Generally speaking the Brother HL-2700 print quality is excellent and delivers some of the fastest color printing speeds at 7 pages per minute, but the color production needs some improvement. Monochrome text is very quick at 28 pages per minute with uncommon clarity, better than similarly priced Lexmark models. Enhancing the image quality comes in the form of Brother’s Color Advanced Photoscale Technology and will compensate for imperfections in the paper and calibrate color to produce consistent results; resolution can be as high as 2400 by 2400 dpi. The BrAdmin program allows for all printing functions to be monitored via a desktop and is common among this class of printers as well as its 30,000 page monthly duty cycle. The cost for printing in color is estimated at $.13 per page and for monochrome documents close to $.03 per page, but these results will vary based upon usage.

The Brother HL-2700 color laser printer legs out its competition in print quality and speeds and is priced well for these features; it should be noted that the expandable options are priced much higher, on average, than their competitors.

The Brother HL-4200 color laser printer provides 1200 dpi resolutions and is a mid range work group printer priced at around $1000.00.

The series is marked by the use of a 400 MHz processor paired with a base memory of 64 MB which will almost certainly need to be expanded to the full 320 MB especially if you plan on adding the auto-duplexing to the base model. Standard on the HL-4200CN model are USB, and 10/100Base TX Ethernet connections; the device can be used as the print server in this model, which is not too common in this class. No hard disk is available for this unit, which is to be expected, but the Brother HL-4200 comes with a 600 sheet capacity for media and can be upgraded to 1,600 for larger printing needs. To help with changing company printing needs, Brother has included their own driver in addition to the standard PostScript driver and both can be installed to take advantage of the sizing capabilities of the Brother driver.

Even though the resolution can be set to 1200 dpi the color graphics seem a bit heavy and has noticeable blurring, and the text was overly dark and bold. The PANTONE Color Matching helps, but some of the less expensive models have better print quality for the same price; however, the Brother HL-4200 series legs out the competition in line art. These printed pages will cost, on average, $.10 per color copy and about $.03 per monochromatic print, only a few printers can beat the color cost. To add to this speed is slower than most at 12 pages per minute in color and barely 21 pages per minute in black and white. What the Brother lacks in speed it makes up for in user friendliness; the LCD interface is simpler and easier to use than most in class printers.

With its low cost per printed color page, affordable price tag and user friendliness the Brother HL-4200 provides a great solution for those that don’t require fast high quality color graphics.
