If you want a color laser printer, one unit to consider might be the Samsung CLP-620. Though it is quite heavy at 59.5 pounds, its 17.4×16.7×17 inch construction shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Unable to scan, copy or fax like many newer models on the market, the Samsung CLP-620 offers simple printing to small offices with a need of 65,000 pages or less. Compatible with Windows, Mac or Linux support, most offices will easily be supported, and connection is offered via ethernet or USB.

When it comes to speed, the machine isn’t the fastest on the market, but for most small offices its speeds of 21 pages per minute should suffice. It also has the ability to produce resolutions as high as 9600×600 dpi. If you need built-in networking, check out the Samsung CLP-620n.

Reviews from customers tend to rate the Samsung CLP-620 quite highly. They find the quality of printed documents to be excellent, and most love how easy setup and network installation are. Its fast speeds are praised often, and its hassle-free ease of use is applauded again and again. One of the highest rated functions of the machine, though, has to be its ability to produce wonderful looking graphics with sharp colors and tones. When it comes to complaints, though, there are a few, like the fact that it is a little larger and heavier than many other models on the market. Another complaint is that the price tag on the Samsung CLP-620 toner is just too expensive.

If that does seem to be a problem, you might want to try using remanufactured replacements from third party vendors instead of purchasing OEM toner cartridges. Though these will cost you much less than the OEM toner, that doesn’t mean they will exert less quality. Overall, the remanufactured Samsung CLP-620 toner cartridges will prove to be just as good as the original—if not better.

Is your midsized office looking for a machine that can copy, scan, fax and print in black-and-white? If so, you might want to look at the Konica Minolta bizhub 20. With speeds of 32 pages per minute and a monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages, it will certainly fit most medium sized offices well. A laser printer, it only uses one toner cartridge that is affordable, easy to use and easy to replace. Connection is offered via USB, parallel or ethernet port, and a memory of 64 MB come standard.

The copier portion of the bizhub 20 has a 30-page automatic document feeder, or ADF, and the ability to produce up to 99 copies from an original document. It offers duplex printing features and an LCD screen to make copying even more convenient and easy to do. It can copy its first page out in as little as 10.5 seconds or less, while the warm-up time is 18 seconds.

Its print functions are fast too, and its first page out time is 8.5 seconds or less. Resolutions as high as 1200×1200 dpi are possible. The machine also has many features like collate, toner save mode, binding offset and scaling. Its scanning functions include color capabilities, and documents as large as 8.5×14 inches can be scanned. For color scans, only 8 pages per minute can be created, but for black-and-white copies, up to 20 pages per minute.

Making this machine a true all in one, fax capabilities are offered. The transmission speed is very quick at 33.6 Kbps. Contrast control, like automatic, light and dark manual settings, is also offered, as well as 40-one touch dials and up to 300 speed dials. Automatic redial is also featured as well.

Windows and Mac operating systems are the only ones compatible, which could be a little limiting; however, if you use one of those platforms the bizhub 20 is a great option.

The Konica Minolta pagepro 1380MF is a monochrome laser all in one. Though this machine can print, scan and copy, faxing capabilities are obsolete, so if you need all of these features, you may want to look elsewhere. With the ability to create up to 15,000 pages each month, this multi-functioning unit will work best in a small office or home with large printing needs. The frame of the 1380 is compact, at only 19.4×18.3×14.5 inches, and its weight of 27.1 pounds shouldn’t be too hard to lift. It also comes with a standard memory of 32 MB.

The printing function works quite fast at 21 pages per minute, and using the Konica Minolta 1380 toner, resolutions as high as 600×600 dpi. The copier hits the same resolutions, but doesn’t maintain the same speeds—when copying only 20 pages per minute are possible. Reductions and enlargements from 25% to 400% are possible, and up to 99 copies can be made from each original document. The scanner an reach resolutions of 1200×1200 dpi with a color depth of 24 bits.

Transparencies, plain paper, cards, envelopes, labels and recycled paper are all supported by this all in one, and USB connection is the only type offered. When it comes to operating systems, Windows is the only one supported, so if you use another system, you will need to look elsewhere.

Reviews of the Konica Minolta pagepro 1380MF are, for the most part, very positive. Users love how easy to use the machine is, and setup couldn’t have been any simpler, according to consumers. What consumers like most about the 1380, though, has to be its very low operating cost using the pagepro 1380 toner cartridges. Their inexpensive price is applauded over and over again. The major downside when it comes to this unit tends to be its lack of coloring capabilities due to the fact it is a monochrome unit.

With a compact footprint, the Okidata MC860 fits easily into small or midsized offices. It is a multi-functioning unit that can copy, scan, print and fax, and does each function with color. It is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, and paper sizes like tabloid, letter, legal, executive, B4, B5, A3, A4, A5 and A6 are all supported by and work well with the MC860. The maximum size of paper that can be used with this machine is 11×17 inches. USB, ethernet and parallel connections are all standard. It also comes with a 40 GB hard drive, and the MC860 can produce up to 75,000 documents each and every month.

You are going to need four Okidata MC860 toner cartridges to operate this unit, and the colors needed are black, yellow, magenta and cyan. These cartridges are easy to find and easy to install, making them convenient and hassle free. When using the Oki MC860 toner, resolutions as high as 1200×600 dpi are possible. The 1200×600 dpi resolution will make documents look high quality and professional.

The copier and printer both work at the same fast rates of 33 pages per minute for black prints and 26 pages per minute for color prints. These speeds are quite good for a laser printer, and they will keep up with your business place well. The fax has the ability to send files in TIFF, PDF, XPS or JPEG file formats. The scanner is a flatbed scanner, and an automatic document feeder is offered as an easy-to-use feature.

The machine is compact with dimensions of only 22.2×25.9×26.3 inches, which make it easy to place around the office on nearly any desk or table space. Its weight of 211.6 pounds, though, may be a real turn off. Multiple people will have to move the unit. Even though it has subtle flaws, it is definitely worth its low upfront price overall.

Printers have improved dramatically through the years, offering more and more features in increasingly smaller sizes. However, many users would like the ability to do simple photo printing without the unnecessary hassle of using a computer. The Canon Selphy ES3 answers the call. It is a compact photo printer that offers quick and easy photo printing directly from a memory card, directly from a digital camera, or even via Bluetooth for the ultimate in ease-of-use.

The machine has a full-color 3.5” screen for previewing photos, and users can even do a certain amount of editing, such as red-eye reduction. It is possible to create small calendars, add frames to photos, and do other simple creative projects that make great gifts.

Print speed is around 55 seconds for a 4” x 6” photo. Up to 999 images can be stored in the machine with its built-in memory. The device is designed for simplicity and ease-of-use from start to finish. Even the most novice of users should have no problem quickly and easily creating excellent photo projects.

Design-wise, the Selphy ES3 has more in common with a trendy boombox than a photo printer, as it features a convenient handle on top for portability and an eye-catching rounded design that gives it a very modern look. The unit measures only 8.9 inches by 8.9 inches by 5.4 inches, so it can be easily placed virtually anywhere for easy storage and use.

With only two cartridges to replace, even buying Canon Selphy ES3 ink cartridges is a simple task. As the cartridges have a capacity of only 25 photos, expect to replace them often. Still, the cost per page is not particularly high, especially when considering the machine’s low upfront price.

For buyers who want the ability to make their own photo prints, but don’t want to have to use a computer for the task, the Canon Selphy ES3 could be just the model they are looking for. Its low price and easy operation will appeal to a wide range of users.

The HP 94A toner cartridge, also known as the HP C4194A toner cartridge, is the yellow cartridge in the series of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Together they produce the full range of color for laser toner printers. This particular cartridge is compatible with the HP LaserJet 4500 and HP LaserJet 4550 models.

This yellow HP 94A cartridge is one in a series of four cartridges in the configuration known as CMYK. CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, where black was originally referred to as “key”, since it was the key or alignment of all other colors. Some printing standards have used CMY without black, as cyan, magenta, and yellow can be combined to create what is known as composite black. This is not a true black, however, and is a less appealing method. With laser printers, text is often a priority as well, so true black printing is a necessity.

When the four colors of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black are combined in different ratios they can create virtually the entire spectrum of color. This makes it a very useful configuration for printing.

The printers that use the HP 94A toner cartridge are capable of very high quality prints. The HP LaserJet 4500 and 4550 have a maximum resolution of 600 dpi for very sharp print quality, but they also incorporate HP’s Image REt technology which can simulate the image quality of 2400 dpi printing. This adds a level of detail and sharpness that is often unmatched by printers with higher printing resolutions.

While purchasing the HP 94A is the most expensive option, buyers can save money by choosing a remanufactured cartridge or a third-party compatible cartridge. Both of these options are safe and less expensive alternatives to paying full-price for an OEM cartridge, as long as they are purchased from a seller with a satisfaction guarantee and a solid warranty.

The Lexmark E120n is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. Its compact size and very affordable price make it a great choice for a personal laser printer. Built-in networking is a nice bonus.

The E120n has a very compact footprint, making it very appealing for offices where space is tight. In fact, it is small enough to fit on most desks. The E120n includes a built-in ethernet port for connecting it to a network. It should be noted, however, that with its limited paper capacity and speeds, it will not be able to handle a large number of users, and it is certainly not built for high-volume printing. Therefore, it would be best suited to a home network or small office where it only needs to support a few users.

Paper capacity is in line with most personal printers. It holds 150 sheets in its main paper tray and 15 sheets in its multipurpose tray. A multipurpose tray is a rarity for personal lasers, and is a convenient feature, as it means users don’t have to empty the main tray before adding alternate media types or sizes. Users will want to examine their printing habits to ensure that the E120n’s small paper capacity won’t be a limiting factor, as it is only suitable for light-duty printing.

The Lexmark E120n toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,000 pages, though it comes with a starter cartridge with a capacity of only 500 sheets. The Lexmark E120n toner cartridges can be a bit difficult to replace, but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier.

Print speed is around 20 pages per minute, impressive for a personal laser. Print quality is mixed. Text is generally good, but loses clarity on small font sizes. Graphics quality is below average.

Overall, the Lexmark E120n is a good choice for a very small network in a light-duty office. Its affordable price and compact footprint offset its slightly disappointing print quality.

The Konica Minolta magicolor 1600W is a color laser printer designed for the personal or small office user who needs color laser printing on a small budget.

The 1600W is an extremely compact printer. Measuring 10.9 by 15.6 by 15 inches (HWD), it has a smaller footprint than many inkjet printers. Given that this printer’s target buyer is one who wants to upgrade from an inkjet to a small color laser, this will be a major selling point. The 1600W should be able to fit comfortably into any space previously occupied by an inkjet printer.

Setup is very easy. Take the printer out of the box, load paper, connect all cords, and run the installation CD. Because the 1600W is designed as a personal printer, its only connection is a USB port, though it could still be shared on a network, either with a host PC or a print server.

Print speeds are quite good for the price, at 20 pages per minute for monochrome, and 5 pages per minute in color. These speeds should be more than adequate for the majority of personal users. Paper handling is also a little better than one would expect from a personal laser printer. The printer has an input paper capacity of 200 sheets, allowing for a lot of printing before the need to replenish paper.

Print quality is quite good, especially considering the price. Text is sharp and well-defined, graphics quality is good, and photo quality is adequate. Most laser printers have problems accurately printing photos, so the 1600W is neither better or worse than average on this point.

Overall, the Konica Minolta magicolor 1600W is an impressive printer that provides great value for its low price. Personal users who want their own color laser printer for desktop use will find the 1600W to be an excellent choice.

The HP 4300 monochromatic laser printer is a desktop workgroup printer featuring fast print speeds and great support from Hewlett Packard; the unit is inexpensively priced around $300.00.

With processor speeds at 350 MHz and a maximum memory of 416 MB, base memory is at 64 MB, large and complex documents are no problem. RAM is upgradable as well as the option to add auto duplexing; the auto duplexing unit is a bit bulky and some additional room will be needed. The HP 4300 edges out the competition by supporting a wide variety of operating systems and platforms such as UNIX, Linux, IBM OS/2 Warp, Novell, Windows and Mac. Standard on the base models is a 600 sheet input capacity which can be expanded to a staggering 2600 sheets via additional paper trays. Media sizes supported are fairly standard and can handle up to 120g/m2 weight paper; the competition has similar specifications. No hard drive is available on this model but an array of paper feeders and different sized paper trays are.

Print at up to 45 pages per minute with this work horse of the printing industry. The printer has a monthly duty cycle of 200,000 pages which is higher than similarly priced models on the market and delivers 1200 by 1200 dpi resolutions. Unfortunately, parallel connections are standard and additional ports are standard on the higher end models like the HP 4300n and tn. These printers utilize HP’s UltraPrecise toner coupled with their ProRes 1200 and FastRes 1200 image enhancement software to improve image printing. Images are presented quite well and show only small signs of fading when closely examined. Text is produced exceptionally but the warm up time is longer than most printers in class. Printed pages will cost you around $.02 per page but will solely be dependent upon your coverage and complexity of printed documents.

All in all the HP 4300 is a fast and reliable printer for monochrome documents; however, you will need to pay extra for needed paper input and Ethernet capabilities.

The HP LaserJet 4730 multifunction printer is designed for large printing and document requirements in medium to large work groups and printing departments; the HP 4730 base model can be found for around $1,100.00.

The processor on the HP 4730 is clocked at 533 MHz and has a base memory of 256 MB which can be expanded to 512 MB. These devices have a 40 GB hard drive and duplex printing standard on all models all the while supporting UNIX, Linux, Mac, Windows and IBM operating systems which expands the number of businesses that can utilize them. To further expand their capabilities networking is standard along with USB and parallel ports while the copier can print up to 999 copies at any given time. Scanning color depth is rated at 30 bit and resolutions ring in at 600 by 600 dpi which is pretty average for this class of printers. Media handling is great at 1600 sheets of input supporting cards, labels, envelopes, plain and recycled paper as well as a by pass feeder for oddly sized media.

The processor and memory on the HP 4730 allow for fast 30 pages per minute print speeds and a maximum resolution of 1200 dpi. The HP REt Image enhancement technology helps to keep all of your documents consistent by compensating for discrepancies in paper, toner and color levels. A monthly duty cycle of 175,000 pages is more than ample for most heavy printing oriented work places and stapler and stacker finishers are available for an additional fee. Fax resolutions are decent at 300 by 300 dpi but does not support color faxes which is pretty standard for its class of printers. Prints, copies and faxes cost close to $.03 per monochrome document and slightly more for color beating out most of the competition. Gray scale images are presented in 256 shades and images are produced quite well; above average for its class.

The HP 4730 multifunction printer series has great support, average copy and fax features as well as lower cost per printed page and while set up is a bit more complicated than some it is well suited for a busy work group. Higher end models will set you back up to $5000.00 so make sure you get what you need.
