Lexmark LED C920

The Lexmark C920 is an LED color printer built for work groups with heavy printing demands; the device is priced around $2,400.00, the base model, which is in line with its specifications.

The LED printing technology allows for improved speed of the first printed document and is equipped with a 1 GHz processor and a maximum of 1 GB of RAM. Although the processor and memory are competitive with other printers the media handling falls short only supporting Letter A, Legal, and Executive sizes which could hinder a work group’s printing capabilities. Networking is not standard and will need to be added via the only expansion slot or spend a little more for an external print server; a USB and parallel are installed on all models. Lexmark redeems itself as the C920 supports Mac, Windows, UNIX, and Linux operating platforms increasing usability across platforms. Finishing options include a high capacity feeder, printer cabinets and staple/punch finishers.

MIDASLONG Lexmark C920

Lexmark has equipped the C920 with 2400 dpi via image enhancement technologies and an automatic color correction which provides excellent image and graphics in full color and at 30 pages per minute in color although similarly priced printers are faster. Monochrome documents are printed a bit faster at 36 pages per minute with good clarity which is comparable to other printers in its class. The included desktop interface software will enable tracking of print statistics, usage by individual users and alerts sent during a print job to anyone on the network. This is a much better choice than the LCD display on the printer which can be cumbersome and hard to navigate. The Lexmark C920 supports a monthly yield of 200,000 pages making it perfect for a large and busy workgroup. Another downside is that Lexmark toners are very expensive so third party toners should be used to reduce the cost per color page down from $.16.

Lexmark has given the C920 great image production, cross platform capabilities and large monthly duty cycles but consumables are priced higher than its competitors.
