Looking for a black-and-white laser printer for your home or small office? If so, the Brother HL-2230 may be a great place to look. With fast speeds of 24 pages per minute, it should keep up with most offices quite well, and it can reach high quality resolutions as high as 2400×600 dpi. It also has a fast first page out time of less than 8.5 seconds. Up to 250 pages can fit inside the unit’s input tray. There is no room for expansion in this area like there are for many printers, so if you need a larger input tray, you may want to look elsewhere. Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems are all supported by the HL-2230, and up to 10,000 pages can be produced each and every month. However, Brother recommends that it is only used from 250 to 2,000 pages every month.

One drawback to this machine is that it doesn’t come standard with a LCD display. It does, however, have a CPU speed of 200 MHz and a printer toner save mode. Many media types are supported like bond paper, plain paper, transparencies and labels. Sizes like legal, letter, executive, A4, A5 and A6 are all supported. For those who need it, envelope printing is also supported. The input trays can hold up to 250 sheets of these papers, and the output tray can hold around 100 sheets. It is Energy Star compliant, meaning it is more environmentally friendly than the majority of units on the market.

Weighing only 14.8 pounds, this unit will be great for those who need portability and mobility from their printer. It also has a very compact size of only 14.5×14.2×7.2 inches, making it simple to find a place for or store away too. Upon purchase, you receive one toner cartridge and one drum unit that will last 700 pages and 12,000 pages, respectively.

If you want a color laser printer, one unit to consider might be the Samsung CLP-620. Though it is quite heavy at 59.5 pounds, its 17.4×16.7×17 inch construction shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Unable to scan, copy or fax like many newer models on the market, the Samsung CLP-620 offers simple printing to small offices with a need of 65,000 pages or less. Compatible with Windows, Mac or Linux support, most offices will easily be supported, and connection is offered via ethernet or USB.

When it comes to speed, the machine isn’t the fastest on the market, but for most small offices its speeds of 21 pages per minute should suffice. It also has the ability to produce resolutions as high as 9600×600 dpi. If you need built-in networking, check out the Samsung CLP-620n.

Reviews from customers tend to rate the Samsung CLP-620 quite highly. They find the quality of printed documents to be excellent, and most love how easy setup and network installation are. Its fast speeds are praised often, and its hassle-free ease of use is applauded again and again. One of the highest rated functions of the machine, though, has to be its ability to produce wonderful looking graphics with sharp colors and tones. When it comes to complaints, though, there are a few, like the fact that it is a little larger and heavier than many other models on the market. Another complaint is that the price tag on the Samsung CLP-620 toner is just too expensive.

If that does seem to be a problem, you might want to try using remanufactured replacements from third party vendors instead of purchasing OEM toner cartridges. Though these will cost you much less than the OEM toner, that doesn’t mean they will exert less quality. Overall, the remanufactured Samsung CLP-620 toner cartridges will prove to be just as good as the original—if not better.

It may not be the flashiest machine on the market, lacking wireless printing or features like faxing, copying and scanning. It may not impress buyers with functions like direct CD printing or fast speeds of over 50 pages a minute. What the Okidata C610 can do, though, is offer midlevel offices high quality results at a price that is affordable for any budget. And it can do so at speeds of 32 pages per minute.

A color laser printer, the Oki C610 can print in black-and-white or with colors, using its four toner cartridges—cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Using the color, its speeds are a little slower at 30 pages per minute, but these should keep you operating at a solid, respectable pace. With its 75,000 page monthly duty cycle, mid to large size offices will be able to print as many pages as needed without hesitation or worry that the unit will break down. It is very compact at 13.4×17.1×21.5 inches, but it is pretty heavy at 57.3 pounds.

Want to print high quality documents? Then you’ve come to the right place. When printing in color or black-and-white, buyers have the ability to print out documents with a resolution as high as 1200×600 dpi, which will leave documents looking sharp, precise, detailed and professional. Not only can it print with high quality, but it can do so on both sides of the paper with its duplex printing feature. Multiple types of media are supported too, like transparency, banner paper, envelopes, plain paper and mailing stock. Multiple types of envelopes are supported, including custom size and Com 10 envelopes.

For connection, the C610 uses fast ethernet or USB hookups. It is also compatible with 16 GB SD memory cards. It is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems only, and it is Energy Star compliant.

The Canon Pixma MP640 is not only a solid inkjet printer capable of printing photos, but it is a copier and scanner too. With a very compact size of 17.8×14.5×6.9 inches, you will easily be able to fit it into your home, and its weight of 19.4 pounds will make it a synch to move. It has the ability to connect via USB, ethernet or Wi-Fi connection. The MP640 also offers printing directly from flash memory sticks, like SD Memory Card, CompactFlash,, MicroSD, USB flash drive and IBM Microdrive sticks, among others.

It can copy impressively 99 duplicates from an original document, and it offers reduction and enlargement from 25%-100%. Automatic duplex printing comes standard, and copying and printing high resolutions can be obtained. For black-and-white prints resolutions of 600×600 dpi are standard, while 9600×2400 dpi are standard for color prints. Envelopes, plain paper and photo paper are all supported, and up to 300 sheets can fit in the machine’s input tray.

Most who use the Canon Pixma MP640 rave about the product. One of the most praised features is its ability to print directly on CDs and DVDs, which is a rarity. Setup is simple, according to users, and the machine creates little noise. All around, consumers praise the MP640 for how wonderfully it prints documents, especially photos. It’s also been applauded for being fast, and its Wi-Fi feature is a big hit. The only real complaints are print jams that come often and the small amount of ink inside the Pixma MP640 ink cartridges.

If you are worried about the cost of ink cartridges over time, keep in mind that remanufactured versions of the printer ink are available from third party vendors. Third party vendors sell the same replacement ink for only a fraction of the price, reducing the cost of maintaining your printer sometimes up to a half!

If you want a personal color laser printer, you might want to consider the Samsung CLP-500. With decent black-and-white speeds and a high quality resolution of documents outputted, it will make most home users quite happy. At 77 pounds, it is very heavy, meaning you won’t easily be able to lift it if needed. It’d also very easy to find space for with a size of 20.1×18.5×15.9 inches. It has a monthly duty cycle of 35,000 pages that will most likely be more than enough for the majority of home office users.

Its monochrome printing speeds are decent at 21 pages per minute, which should probably suffice for most personal users. However, its color speeds are very slow at 5 pages per minute—newer models easily surpass this with speeds up to 40 pages per minute. Even though it’s built for midlevel offices, it probably is a little weak. Its first page out times are a little slower than most too. It takes 14 seconds and 26 seconds for the first page to print out for black-and-white and color prints, respectively. The resolutions of 1200×1200 dpi will leave documents looking flawless, sharp and professional. For networking, seek the compatible model the Samsung CLP-500n.

There is a 150-page multipurpose tray that can hold a few different times of media, like envelopes, labels, cards and transparencies. Documents that are 3×6.3 inches in size are the smallest that are supported, while 8.5×14 inches is the largest paper size supported. The processor is a 360 MHz, and the maximum amount of RAM possible is 32 MB. Unfortunately, that cannot be upgraded, like it can with many other machines on the market.

In order to use this machine, you will need four toner cartridges full of cyan, black, magenta and yellow printer toner. The color consumables should last 5,000 pages, while the black toner cartridge will last 7,000 pages before expiring and needing replaced. While the toner is a little pricier than similar products on the market, remanufactured cartridges make this unit much more affordable.

The Lexmark C540 is a color laser printer perfect for small to mid-level workgroups that print anywhere below 35,000 pages each month. At 16.7×15.7×11.5 inches, this little machine can be placed nearly anywhere in an office, barely taking up any room. It is, however, a little heavy at 46.3 pounds. Though most offices only need black-and-white printing, there are some that do need color capabilities, and the Lexmark C540 is perfect for those users.

Its speeds are decent at 21 pages per minute for monochrome or color prints, and resolutions of 1200×1200 dpi are offered either way. Another great speedy features is the machine’s quick first-page-out times. It can print its first black-and-white document in as few as 12 seconds and its first color document in 13 seconds. The Lexmark C540 also has the ability to print on multiple media types, like labels, transparencies, cards and plain paper, meaning it is versatile in what it can add to your office.

Consumers that use the Lexmark C540 find that overall it is an excellent machine. However, there is one complaint that seems to consistently be across the board—the cost of printer toner. Other than that, though, users praise the machine for its wonderful output of printed pages and over and over again it is applauded for its easy setup and installation.

One thing a lot of people may not know, though, that would make owning the Lexmark C540 a lot more affordable is the fact that they could be buying remanufactured toner cartridges from third party vendors for a much more affordable price. These printer toners cost only a fraction of the price of the OEM versions, but they still maintain and create the same quality documents. These can be found from multiple places online, and using them will save you a ton of money overall.

With speeds of 32 pages per minute and a monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages, it will certainly fit most medium sized offices well. A laser printer, it only uses one toner cartridge that is affordable, easy to use and easy to replace. Connection is offered via USB, parallel or ethernet port, and a memory of 64 MB come standard.

The copier portion of the bizhub 20 has a 30-page automatic document feeder, or ADF, and the ability to produce up to 99 copies from an original document. It offers duplex printing features and an LCD screen to make copying even more convenient and easy to do. It can copy its first page out in as little as 10.5 seconds or less, while the warm-up time is 18 seconds.

Its print functions are fast too, and its first page out time is 8.5 seconds or less. Resolutions as high as 1200×1200 dpi are possible. The machine also has many features like collate, toner save mode, binding offset and scaling. Its scanning functions include color capabilities, and documents as large as 8.5×14 inches can be scanned. For color scans, only 8 pages per minute can be created, but for black-and-white copies, up to 20 pages per minute.

Making this machine a true all in one, fax capabilities are offered. The transmission speed is very quick at 33.6 Kbps. Contrast control, like automatic, light and dark manual settings, is also offered, as well as 40-one touch dials and up to 300 speed dials. Automatic redial is also featured as well.

Windows and Mac operating systems are the only ones compatible, which could be a little limiting; however, if you use one of those platforms the bizhub 20 is a great option.

Want compatibility, affordability and reliability in one small machine? What about a printer that can work as a network printer, connecting everyone in your office to one machine? If you’re looking for any of this, you’re going to want to check out the Dell 2330dn. Offering fast speeds and a monthly duty cycle of up to 50,000 pages, it will be hard to find a more compatible unit for your mid to high capacity office. It also supports Windows, Linux, Solaris, Novell, Citrix and UNIX operating systems, making it as versatile as the offices that use it—you won’t find many printers compatible with this many systems.

The Dell 2330dn has fast speeds of up to 35 pages per minute, and each page will print with high resolutions of up to 1200×1200 dpi, meaning your documents will print with sharp and professional precision. Its first page out time is only 7.5 seconds too, which proves you won’t find yourself waiting by the printer when work needs to be done. The “d” in its name stands for its duplex printing features, while the “n” stands for its ability to network.

Compact, the Dell 2330dn measures at only 16.8×14.6×10.1 inches, which will make it easy to find a spot for. Compared to other machines, it’s also pretty lightweight, weighing only 31.1 pounds. It also supports media types like cards, transparencies, bond paper, labels, envelopes and plain paper.

Consumer reviews for the Dell 2330dn are, for the most part, quite positive. Users love its compact size and affordable upfront price. The inexpensive price of toner cartridges are among its most praised feature, as well as its quick warm-up time. Its fast printing speeds are also applauded, and users find that the quality of printed documents is far higher than with competing units. When it comes to the Dell 2330dn, complaints are hard to find.

For around $70, you can purchase an all-in-one inkjet printer made especially for photography. Able to print in black-and-white or color, the Canon Pixma MP250 offers fast speeds at a decent price. Compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, it should be easy to setup and replace.

What does the term “all-in-one” mean? Well, the MP250 not only can print, but it can scan and copy as well. Though many all in ones do offer faxing capabilities, that function is obsolete with this particular model. For most home amateur photographers, though, a fax machine isn’t a necessity.

The copier comes standard with borderless functions, fit-to-page features and the ability to copy up to 99 copies from an original document. The printer can print on a variety of paper types, and documents will look best when printed on photo paper. Sizes like 4×6 inch, 5×7 inch, 8×10 inch, letter, legal and envelope are all supported. Using the four needed Pixma MP250 inkjet cartridges, resolutions as high as 4800×1200 dpi are possible. When printing in just black-and-white resolutions can only hit 600×600 dpi. These resolutions will leave your documents looking sharp and professional.

The scanner is a flatbed one, and it uses contact image sensors to create high quality resolutions of 600×1200 dpi, and interpolated resolutions up to 19200×19200 dpi can even be reached. The maximum document size when scanning, though, is 8.5×11 inches, which could be a downside for some.

Overall, users opinions seem to be a little mixed. Though most find it very easy to setup and operate, some find that it is an unreliable product. Many complain too about the high cost of operation using the Canon MP250 ink. The fast speeds are praised often, as well as the machine’s compact design . Probably the one thing that is most highly reviewed is this machine’s sharp toners and colors when printing.
