Dell’s 5200n monochrome laser printer delivers usable features, but only on higher end models and with upgrades; it is priced low, comparatively speaking, around $1000.00.

The processor and memory are a slightly lower than other printers in its class; processor speed is 300 MHz and the memory capacity is 320 MB, 64 MB standard. While the Dell 5200n has optional auto-duplexing, it comes standard with a separate auxiliary 100 count media tray so you can have both envelops and paper loaded, not a common feature on similar printers. Setting up the printer is quite simple via a single computer but the networking, which is standard, is a bit trickier than most and it is recommended that a user refer to the installation guide for help. Standard media capacity is 600 sheets so a workgroup will almost certainly need additional paper trays; additional 500 sheet paper trays or an envelope feeder can be added to bring capacity to 2,600 sheets, not bad for under a grand.

Tested print speeds were lower than the quoted 35 pages per minute; some testing showed a 20 page per minute result, but was still faster than most of the printers in its class. Graphics were printed faster than even some HP monochrome printers at 11 pages per minute and in fine detail, and while the text was a bit grainy when examined closely it suits most small work group needs with a maximum monthly page yield of 175,000 pages pairs and 1.5 cent per printed page cost. Dell’s printer software interface is simple in its functions to choose resolutions, paper size, diagnostics, current print job status as well as toner levels and reordering information.

MIDASLONG Dell 5200n Laser Printer

The Dell 5200n is inexpensive under $1000.00 and provides good speed and more than acceptable printing results; however, a work group will need to spend the extra money on media capacity and memory to fully receive its benefits.
