Samsung CLP-510 Color Laser Printer

The Samsung CLP-510 series of color laser printers are personal use printers equipped with USB connections and capable of 1200 dpi resolutions; the CLP-510 is priced at about $350.00 making it inexpensive for its class of printer.

A 266 MHz processor is paired with 64 MB of standard memory for good print quality. The memory may be upgraded to 192 MB via DIMM card slots and should be expanded if printing requires image heavy documents. The Samsung CLP-510n has a 10/100Base-TX port for networking, but an external print server could be used for wireless networking. The printers are designed for home users, but with the additional 500 sheet media input tray it could be utilized in a small work group environment, giving it a maximum of 850 sheets and being a bit more affordable than other printers. Duplex printing is standard on all of the models in the series, but as it is a home based printer no hard drive or finishing options are available. The onboard LCD interface is disappointing as there is no back lighting, and the controls are a bit confusing; you are better off using the desktop interface for changing printer settings which is simpler than most.

Color prints cost close to $.05 per page depending upon coverage and monochrome prints at about $.02 per page. Using the image enhancement technology resolutions can be increased to 1200 dpi by 1200 dpi improving the image quality to acceptable status. While the text quality is acceptable, it could use some improvement; however, it is good enough for most SOHO applications. A very nice feature is the NO-NOIS system (Non-Orbiting Noiseless Optical Imaging); this feature reduces operating noise levels dramatically and makes the CLP-510 quieter than most other printers in its class. Monthly page yields are over and beyond what a home user would need but decent for a small office at 35,000 pages with a print speed of 20 ppm in black and white and 6 ppm in color.

MIDASLONG Samsung CLP 510

All in all the Samsung CLP-510 is priced well for its features, but is somewhat lacking in print quality.
